The subfamily Archiconchoecinae at present is monogeneric. Archiconchoecia can be subdivided into those species with:
a. conspicuous reticulate striations which probably includes three species:
¥ Archiconchoecia cucullata Brady, 1902 (Archiconchoecia cucullata, Archiconchoecia cucullata 2, Archiconchoecia cucullata 3), a deep mesopelagic species.
¥ Archiconchoecia cucullata small form (Archiconchoecia cucullata small, Archiconchoecia cucullata s 2) which occurs at shallower depths and is the more abundant from in tropical and subtropical latitudes.
¥ Archiconchoecia aff. cucullata (Archiconchoecia af. cucullata, Archiconchoecia af. cucullata 2), a reference for a distinctive undescribed abyssopelagic species.
b. only six pairs of caudal furca claws:
¥ Archiconchoecia striata Müller, 1894 (Archiconchoecia striata, Archiconchoecia striata 2), a shallow mesopelagic species.
¥ Archiconchoecia versicula Deevey, 1978 (Archiconchoecia versicula, Archiconchoecia ventricosa 2), a deep bathypelagic species.
c. a small mesopelagic species with very short stubby terminal claws on the fifth and sixth limbs:
¥ Archiconchoecia cuneata Müller, 1908 (Archiconchoecia cuneata, Archiconchoecia cuneata 2).
d. an abyssopelagic species with a clear lens-like structure on the posterior ventral corner of the carapace, one terminal seta on the first antenna longer than the others, and very short seta on the endopodite of the second antenna:
¥ Archiconchoecia longiseta Deevey, 1978 (Archiconchoecia longiseta, Archiconchoecia longiseta 2), of which only the female is known.
e. another small deep bathypelagic species with a poorly developed rostrum: Archiconchoecia simula Deevey, 1982 (Archiconchoecia simula, Archiconchoecia simula 2);
f. a species with two long terminal and one very short (shorter than the last segment) setae on the fifth and sixth limbs:
¥ Archiconchoecia bimucronata Deevey, 1978, of which only the male is known (Archiconchoecia bispicula, Archiconchoecia bispicula 2).
g. species showing marked sexual dimorphism in carapace shape in which the female carapace length is 1.0-1.1 mm and the male is ca. 0.9 mm:
¥ Archiconchoecia ventricosa Müller, 1906 (Archiconchoecia ventricosa, Archiconchoecia ventricosa 2), with the frontal organ terminating in a single needle-like point.
¥ Archiconchoecia bispicula Deevey, 1978 (Archiconchoecia bispicula, Archiconchoecia bispicula 2), with the frontal organ terminating in a double point.
h. larger species ca. 1.6 mm in length:
¥ Archiconchoecia bifurcata Deevey, 1978 (Archiconchoecia bifurcata, Archiconchoecia bifurcata 2) which has a bifid end to the frontal organ.
¥ Archiconchoecia bidens Deevey, 1982 (Archiconchoecia bidens), which has a Y-shaped end to the frontal organ of which only the male is known.
