caudal furca

[Ostracoda] The posterior end of the abdomen, which usually carries a number of paired spines. The strucure is probably homologous with the telson of other crustacean groups; it has also been interpreted as being a uropod, and hence a true appendage (male, caudal furca/cop.appendage ). Note that in Podocopida and Myodocopida the anus opens dorsally and ventrally of the furca and therefore these are not homologous structures.
