Fins long and narrow, not paddle-shaped, extend laterally from near anterior to posterior end of mantle, not fused posteriorly; long wide calcareous internal shell (sepion) under the skin on dorsal mantle side. Absent in the plankton, not included in the present review. In the South Atlantic present only off Africa.
