Halocella gemma

Borgert

Diagnosis: Central capsule bubble-shaped with a tube-shaped astropyle in the center of an operculum, with a wall seemingly of two layers. Intracapsular protoplasm mainly in front of the operculum where it forms a disc, from which a cord stretches to the opposite pole of the central capsule. Here it unravels "fountain-like" and forms a net under the central capsule wall with its branches. Inconspicuous skeleton an irregular meshwork of silica needles, funnel-shaped, at the oral pole of the central capsule.

Diameter: 0.30-0.50 mm.
