Genus Phronima

Latreille, 1802

All pereonites free (Phronima atlantica 1). P V robust, ending in subchelate claw, ART 5 markedly widened distally, distal (palmar) margin with medial hump-like projection (carpal tubercle) which possesses several tooth-like projections; anterodistal angle with strong, pointed protrusion (carpal process); anterior margin smooth (Phronima atlantica 3). Carpal tubercle may have separate anterior tooth; termed "bifid" with tooth, "single" without tooth. Anterior ("inner") margin of ART 6 may bear projection (metacarpal tubercle). Subchela of P V shorter and broader in males than in females. UR II present in both sexes.
