Genus Evadne

Diagnosis
Body oval or triangular. Carapace: posterior tip more or less pointed (Evadne nordmanni, female). Cervical groove indistinct, head directly connecting to brood chamber without distinct depression in between (but often depressed when brood chamber contains many fully developing embryos). Postabdomen thick, short, ending with a pair of quasi-equitriangular caudal furcae.
Antennae: smaller than those of the Genus Podon and the Genus Pleopis .
Exo- and endopods 4- and 3-segmented, respectively; setal formula 0,1,1,4/1,1,4. Thoracic limbs: 4 pairs; exopods of thoracic limbs 1-3 with 2,2,1, or 2,2,2 setae.

Differential sexual characters
Female: resting eggs: spherical, without any noticeable ornamentation on egg surface; perimeter clearly definable.
Male characteristics similar to those of other podonid species (Genus Podon ).
