Cliopsis krohni

Troschel, 1854

Within this species, three morphs are recognised for the region:

¥ Cliopsis krohni Troschel, 1854 morpha grandis Boas, 1886
Cliopsis krohni m. grandis
Cliopsis krohni m. grandis 2

Visceral organs visible through the body wall. Integument not as transparent as in other morphs, but with same distribution of chromatophores. Body broad with flat posterior pole, balloon-like. Broad circular posterior gill with 4 broad but short, fringed crests. Hook sacs shallow, each with about 60 hooks. Head parts relatively small. Lateral lobes of foot long, projecting over body. Median foot tubercle split into longitudinal halves. Proboscis long, evaginable to twice length of body. Radula formula: 5-1-5. Body length: 40 mm.

¥ Cliopsis krohni Troschel, 1854 morpha krohni Troschel, 1854
Cliopsis krohni m. krohni

Body oval, completely transparent, faintly colored or colorless. Visceral organs yellowish-brown, filling almost whole body; visible through body wall. Posterior gill with 4 rays, without fringes. Posterior tentacles retractable, anterior very small. Proboscis, when evaginated, twice as long as body or longer. Digestive tube in proboscis may reach length of 110 mm. Length of esophagus not permitting buccal organs to become evaginated like proboscis. Median footlobe lacking, well-developed median tubercle with longitudinal grooves. Hook sacs shallow, with up to 60 hooks. Radula formula: 6-1-6 to 4-1-4. Median plates tricuspoid. About 20 transverse rows of teeth. First lateral teeth differ from other laterals by denticle on medial side in middle of head cusp. Body length: 24 mm.

¥ Cliopsis krohni Troschel, 1854 morpha modesta (Pelseneer, 1887)
Cliopsis krohni m. modesta
Cliopsis krohni m. modesta 2

Body oval, completely transparent, visceral organs visible through body wall. Dark chromatophores near posterior gill and in middle of body. Visceral mass not reaching the posterior pole. Posterior gill ring-shaped or hexagonal, with 4 thin, short rays, without fringes. Lateral footlobe broad, no posterior lobe; median foot tubercle present. Proboscis long. Buccal organs similar to those in morpha krohni. Body length: 3 mm.
