Probalaenanemertes irenae

Body rounded anteriorly, tapering slightly posteriorly to end in distinctly flattened tail; length 9-17 mm, width 3-3.5 mm, thickness 1.7-2 mm; colour in life scarlet with orange spots along the lateral margins; rhynchocoel nearly as long as body, with wall containing separate longitudinal and circular muscle layers; proboscis slender, with 17 nerves; females with 5-14 ovaries on either side of body; males unknown.
Distribution: Taken in a vertical haul from a depth of 1000 m to the surface. Known from only two individuals found in the South Atlantic (west of the Cape of Good Hope).
