Umbrella up to 60 mm wide, larger in Subantarctic than in Antarctic specimens, almost hemispherical; manubrium small; mouth with somewhat folded lips; gonads linear along 1/2-2/3 of radial canals; number of tentacles very variable, up to 180; normally 8 statocysts.
