Vervoort and Ramirez (1966) review the Poecilostomatoida family Clausidiidae and a number of genera have been added since. Many of the species in this family are commensal on, or parasites of invertebrates, although the species found in Brazilian waters, Hemicyclops thalassius Vervoort and Ramirez, 1966, (Hemicyclops thalassius) was found in the water column in coastal waters.
