Mnemiopsis maccradyi

Mayer, 1900

Body laterally compressed, similar to Mnemiopsis leidyi. Outer surface sprinkled with numerous small warts (Mnemiopsis maccradyi ), well developed on sides of oral lobes, but absent between subtentacular comb rows. Color glassy transparent. Length up to 110 mm. Balech and Motti (1941) recorded this species as Bolinopsis elegans, off Necochea, Argentina.
Mnemiopsis leidyi and Mnemiopsis maccradyi have been provisionally cited as subspecies of a single species (Mnemiopsis leydyi) (Harbison, pers. comm.; GESAMP, 1997). Seravin (1994) considered M. maccradyi as a synonym of M. leidyi.
