Spinose, with 4 globular chambers in last whorl, surface similar to that of Globigerinoides ruber. In Holocene samples easily distinguished by reddish color throughout entire test.

Distribution: Typically warm water, occasionally occurring in fairly high numbers (up to 3% of the spring assemblage in tropical regions).
