Globorotalia scitula

(Brady, 1882)

Non-spinose, low trochospiral, with smooth surface, no keel and few pustules on apertural side close to aperture. Umbilicus moderately deep, aperture stretching from umbilicus toward periphery, bordered by small lip. Resembles Globorotalia hirsuta, but surface smoother, outline more rounded.

Ref.: Baumfalk et al. (1987).

Distribution: Deep-living, rare in transitional cooler waters and almost absent in low-latitude regions. Its pattern in the North Atlantic is quite different, as here it is common along the temperate and subtropical belts.
