Genus Cyclosalpa

Solitary zooids
Body muscles variously continuous or interrupted along the mid-dorsal line; always interrupted on the mid-ventral line (Cyclosalpa affinis, Cyclosalpa bakeri, Cyclosalpa danae, Cyclosalpa floridana, Cyclosalpa pinnata, Cyclosalpa polae).

Aggregate zooids
Individuals arranged in whorls by means of a prominent attachment organ (peduncle) located on the ventral side, anteriorly (Cyclosalpa affinis 1, Cyclosalpa bakeri 2, Cyclosalpa danae 1, Cyclosalpa floridana 1, Cyclosalpa pinnata 1, Cyclosalpa polae 1). Body muscles continuous dorsally, may be interrupted ventrally. MI and MII, and sometimes a ventral longitudinal muscle, continuing into the peduncle. Intermediate muscle generally fused with the first body muscle. Light organs can be present.

Eleven species, 6 of which have been recorded from the South Atlantic Ocean.
