Subgenus Acrocercus

Lohmann and Bückmann, 1926

Gill slits of various forms and sizes. Tail ending in a simple tip (Fritillaria fraudax).

Ten taxa recorded from the South Atlantic Ocean. Fritillaria charybdae, cited by Lohmann and Hentschel (1939) from Brazilian waters, was later located only in Mediterranean and Pacific waters (Forneris, 1957; Fenaux, 1966; Bückmann and Kapp, 1975). This species will not be included in the present synopsis since it was probably misidentified with Fritillaria gracilis (cf. Dadon and Esnal, 1995).
