Diagnosis
Cornea of eyes globular. Antennal scale with a thorn marking end of naked outer margin. Endopods of 3rd to 8th pereopods with tuft of long, peculiarly serrated setae surrounding dactylus. Exopod of uropods 2-jointed; outer margin of basal segment with spines which are usually restricted to distal part. Apex of telson rounded or truncate, armed medially with 3 small spines, and a pair of plumose setae.

Most species inhabit coastal regions, but a few are epipelagic, open-ocean forms.

Includes 2 tribes, 3 genera, and about 65 species.
