d'Orbigny, 1836
This species has been reported from the eastern South Atlantic by Frontier (1968) and the Mediterranean by Thiriot-Quiévreux (1973) and Vatova (1974). However, Tesch (1949) did not record Atlanta turriculata from Atlantic waters or from the Mediterranean, and Richter (1968) did not find this species in the central Mediterranean. Thus, it seems probable that the records mentioned here refer to juvenile or aberrantly-shaped Atlanta fusca; a species with world-wide distribution.
See the family Atlantidae for a discussion of the species groups.
