Turborotalita quinqueloba

(Natland, 1938)

Small, spinose, low trochospiral, aperture extraumbilical and with small to broad lip. Last chamber slightly elongate and covering umbilicus. During late ontogenetic stages, shortly before gametogenesis, calcite crust may be added on top of normal bilamellar wall. In this case spines are drastically reduced in number. With dinoflagellate symbionts. Feeds mostly on algae and small zooplankton.

Distribution: In the South Atlantic chiefly cold to temperate; especially abundant during spring bloom conditions at low latitudes.
