Familia Nomeidae


Larvae and juveniles commonly associated with floating objects, especially jellyfish. Larvae with fat nose, relatively deep body. With pelvic fins from flexion stage. Body pigments increase with development (Ahlstrom et al., 1976a). Nomeus gronovii larvae with wide band of melanophores over trunk; large pelvic fins also heavily pigmented. Two patches of melanophores appear near mid-tail and over hypural area, developing into two vertical bands in juveniles (Watson, 1996f) (Nomeus gronovii).
