Familia Gobiidae

Generally spawn cigar-shaped eggs on bottom substrate, but larvae planktonic. Body shape slightly elongate to slender in all stages of development, maximum depth ranging between 16 and 18% of SL. Gut straight, extending to somewhat beyond midpoint of body (Olivar and Fortuño, 1991). Most remarkable characteristic of gobiid larvae is prominent gas bladder with heavily pigmented dorsal surface. Second dorsal fin appears at first, first dorsal fin only in post-flexion stage. In older post-flexion larvae, pelvic fins united to form cup-like disc. Majority of larvae with row of melanophores along ventral margin of tail (Sufflogobius bibarbatus), some also with shorter row of dorsal melanophores near caudal peduncle.
