Genus Pegea

Solitary zooids
Barrel-shaped, without projections or protuberances (Pegea bicaudata), Pegea confoederata), Pegea socia). Test smooth (in young specimens the area ventral to the nucleus may be finely granulated), thick and voluminous. Oral and atrial openings terminal. Four body muscles arranged into two groups: MI to MII and MIII to MIV, either converging, contiguous, or fused in the mid-dorsal region. They cover only the dorsal surface of the body.

Aggregate zooids
Barrel-shaped, test smooth, and voluminous (Pegea bicaudata 1), Pegea confoederata 1), Pegea socia 1). Oral opening terminal, atrial opening dorsal. Four body muscles arranged into two groups, as in solitary zooids. Embryo between MIII and MIV. Attachment organs disc-like, two on each side.

Three species, all of them present in the South Atlantic Ocean. The species are readily distinguishable when alive.
