Genus Oikopleura

Trunk compact, anterior part triangular in cross-section (Oikopleurinae). Mouth terminal or slightly dorsal. Buccal glands present or absent (Oikopleurinae-trunk). Spiracles small and round, at both sides of the rectum. Stomach divided into right and left lobes. Esophagus entering the left lobe of the stomach. Intestine short, arising from the lower edge of the right lobe of the stomach. Anus below or in front of the oral wall of the stomach. Tail with or without subchordal cells. Amphichordal cells absent.

Remark
The genera Chunopleura, Folia, Inopinata, Megalocercus, Mesoikopleura, Mesopelagica, Oikopleura, and Stegosoma are grouped together under the supergenus Labiata Fenaux, 1993.
