Animals much higher than wide, lens-like. CX I never hidden by CX II. Coxae forming lateral shield; CX I-III high and narrow, CX IV broad, with posteroproximal excavation, CX V-VII much smaller, practically whole CX V situated in excavation of CX IV. Integument smooth, often dense. Mouth parts projecting in a conical bundle below head. MD lacking palp and molar. Accessory flagellum of ANT I 1- or 2-articulated. P I and II (gnathopods) feeble, simple or weakly subchelate.
Nineteen genera, mainly benthic; 5 in plankton of South Atlantic.
