Genus Cyphocaris

Body slender, smooth (Cyphocaris anonyx 1; Cyphocaris challengeri 1). Integument weak. Pereonite I more or less produced anteriorly, overlapping head (Cyphocaris anonyx 2; Cyphocaris challengeri 2; Cyphocaris richardi 1). ANT long. Coxae I-III small, partly covered by CX IV. Epistome not strongly produced. Mandibular molar of medium size, columnar, often triturative; palp 3-articulated, strong, attached at level of molar. P I and II weakly subchelate. ART 2 of P V often with sword-like tooth on posterior margin (Cyphocaris challengeri 3; Cyphocaris faurei 2). P III-V simple or weakly subchelate, P VI-VII simple. Posteroventral corner of epimeral plate III with small, sharp to approximately right-angled process. Endopodite of UR III well-developed. Telson long, deeply cleft. Purely pelagic genus.
