Key character
Large deep-living species with highly ornamented, relatively elongate carapaces, lacking tubercles at the posterior ventral corners. There are three large bathypelagic species:
¥ Macroconchoecia macroreticulata (Ellis, 1984) (Macroconchoecia macroreticulata, Macroconchoecia reticulata), being the largest species and deepest bodied.
¥ Macroconchoecia spinireticulata (Ellis, 1984) (Macroconchoecia spinireticulata, M. macroreticulata 2), a species with rows of spines ornamenting the reticulations around the posterior margins of the shoulder vaults.
¥ Macroconchoecia reticulata (Müller, 1906) (Macroconchoecia reticulata, Macroconchoecia reticulata 2), a species with the ventral margin of the carapace almost parallel with the dorsal margin. Macroconchoecia reticulata is the type species for the genus.
