Dana, 1849
The subfamily Halocyprinae consists of three genera erected by Poulsen (1969): Fellia, Halocypria and Halocypris.
Fellia includes three species with spine and/or rounded processes on the carapace:
¥ Fellia cornuta (Müller, 1906) (Fellia cornuta, Fellia cornuta 2) is a large species with large lateral spine processes on the shoulder vaults.
¥ Fellia bicornis (Müller, 1906) (Fellia bicornis, Fellia bicornis 2) is a smaller species with a rounded swelling developed just below and anterior to the midline of each carapace valve.
¥ Fellia dispar (Müller, 1906) (Fellia dispar) is another large, but rarely caught, species originally described as a subspecies of Fellia cornuta, with only lateral protuberances developed on the shoulder vaults.
Halocypria, monospecific for:
¥ Halocypria globosa Claus, 1874 (Halocypria globosa, Halocypria globosa 2), has a globous carapace lacking spines and protuberances and has a clearly developed rostrum and incisure.
Halocypris includes two species, only readily distinguishable on the basis of size:
¥ Halocypris inflata (Dana, 1852) (Halocypris inflata, Halocypris inflata 2)
¥ Halocypris pelagica Claus, 1890 (Halocypris pelagica, Halocypris pelagica 2), in which the rostrum is barely developed so they lack an obvious incisure.
