Majestic in size and movement. Trumpet-shaped, elongate, highly contractile, uniformly ciliated. Adoral zone spirals nearly 360° around flared anterior end. Stomatogenesis apokinetal. Often pigmented (cortical granules) and/or with symbiotic zoochlorellae. Few species with mucilaginous lorica. Macronucleus commonly moniliform. Typically in freshwater habitats.
