Collin, 1912

Budding endogenous with one or more monogemmic or polygemmic swarmers produced completely internally, becoming free-swimming in brood pouch before emergence through birth pore. Small permanent field of nonciliferous basal bodies near contractile vacuole responsible for swarmer ciliature. Swarmers small, with encircling band(s) of cilia. Adults usually small (but ramified, and enormous in some groups), often loricate, sometimes colonial. Tentacles frequently in bundles but not on papillae ("actinophores"). In freshwater and marine habitats, with ectosymbiotic forms common and some endocommensals in wide range of hosts.
