Familia Dorataspidae

Haeckel, 1862

Twenty spicules of same shape and generally same length, with two to four cross-shaped ramified processes or five to six angular porous plates linking to form latticed or armored shell. Conical bases of spicules linked or closely associated, forming mass in cell center. Cell body spherical, with yellow or red endoplasm, surrounded by capsular wall. Ectoplasm with numerous zooxanthellae. Periplasmic cortex covering ectoplasm and linked to spicules by 6-16 myonemes.
