Larvae thin-bodied to diaphanous, slightly pigmented, all developing elongate first or second dorsal fin ray (Ahlstrom et al., 1984a). Bothus ocellatus larvae with ovate form and laterally compressed body (Jutare, 1962). First dorsal ray elongate from pre-flexion stage. Number of myomeres 35-37, dorsal and anal fin rays 76-91 and 58-68 respectively (Bothus ocellatus).
