Larvae of both Coryphaena hippurus and Coryphaena equiselis heavily pigmented from yolk-sac stage. In Coryphaena hippurus entire sides of body marked with pattern of alternating dark and light bars, continuing onto dorsal and anal fins in post-flexion stage larva (Coryphaena hippurus). Head spination characterized by presence of sphenotic spine, supra-temporal spines, and double series of pre-opercular spines (5 in Coryphaena equiselis and 4 in Coryphaena hippurus) (Ditty et al., 1994).
