Larvae deep, especially behind the pectoral fin base. Snout pointed, mouth large, gut cavity triangular and quite deep anteriorly. Peritoneal pigment sections unpaired. Larvae of genus Odontostomops with more than 10 peritoneal pigment sections, and those of Evermannella and Coccorella with only 3 (Johnson, 1984b, Ozawa, 1986e) (Evermannella indica).
