In both solitary and aggregate zooids: gut not beside the gill (Thalia democratica, Thalia democratica 1, Thalia democratica 2). Distinct light organs absent. Aggregate zooids: gut always forming a more or less compact nucleus. Two or more attachment organs. Ovary and embryos attached laterally, on the right side. Testis included in the nucleus.
