Pyrosomatidae in which the cyathozooids produce only 4 primary ascidiozooids lying in a row (Cyathozooid of P. verticillata); secondary ascidiozooids can move to a different position from the one occupied at the time of budding. Colonial diaphragm present (longitudinal section, Detail of an ascidiozooid). Colonial wall either entirely smooth (Pyrosomella verticillata) or provided with longer or shorter, conical or truncate processes (Pyrosoma ovatum).
