Genus Rhabdosoma

White, 1847

Body extremely elongate, needle-like (Rhabdosoma brevicaudatum 1). Head much longer than pereon, "main" part moderately small, great length resulting from long slender neck and gigantic, thin, needle-shaped rostrum (Rhabdosoma minor 1; Rhabdosoma whitei 1). Coxae fused with pereonites. P I and II very short, chelate (Rhabdosoma whitei 2); P III-VI short, slender, with linear ART 2. P VII reduced to small ART II, sometimes with 1-2 very small distal ART. Fused urosomite (II+III) more than 4 times as long as wide. UR long, thin, slender, with very short exopodites (Rhabdosoma armatum 1, Rhabdosoma brevicaudatum 2). Endopodites of UR II and III fused with basipodites. Telson free, short to very long.
