Small animals with strong sexual dimorphism (Phronimopsis spinifera 1, Phronimopsis spinifera 2). Pereonites I and II fused in both sexes. Body slender in males, more globular in females. Head higher than long; longer than first 2 pereonites in females, first 3 pereonites in males, without lateral lobes. In females head higher than in males. Coxae fused with pereonites. ANT I of female with 1-articulate peduncle produced into long spine beneath flagellum. ANT II with peduncle, 1-articulate flagellum in female. MD with palp in males, without in females. MXP with narrow, finger-like outer lobes. P I simple, with dactyl covered by short setae. P II chelate with "classic" crayfish chela formed by dactyl and ART 6, stronger in females; dactyl and process of ART 6 shorter than body of ART 6. P III-VII delicate but prehensile, dactyls closing against expanded distal margin of ART 6. P V-VII subequal, longer than III and IV. Telson very short.
