All coxae short. Rostrum developed, head usually normal in appearance, with projecting lateral lobes (but see Halice macronyx - Halice macronyx 1). ANT I-II well-developed. ANT I with articulated accessory flagellum, often sexually dimorphic; proximal ART of main flagellum occasionally fused. Mouth parts under the head collectively form a cubical, only exceptionally a conical, body. MD lacking molar, mainly asymmetrical, palp variously absent to 3-articulated (Halice secunda 2).
Seventeen genera, mainly benthic, only one represented in the South Atlantic plankton.
