Genus Conchoecissa


Key character
Carapace with highly reticulate sculpture with spines at the posterior dorsal corner of both valves and tubercles at the posterior ventral corner, the armature of the male antennular e seta are paired needle-like spines (except in Conchoecossda imbricata, Conchoecissa imbricata 3). Five species:

¥ Conchoecossda imbricata (Brady , 1880) (Conchoecissa imbricata, Conchoecissa imbricata 2, Conchoecissa imbricata 3) which is a common middle latitude mesopelagic diel vertical migrant with long symmetrical extensions to the rostrum.
¥ Conchoecossda ametra (Müller, 1906) (Conchoecissa ametra, Conchoecissa ametra 2, Conchoecissa ametra 3) - a deep mesopelagic species with asymmetrical extensions to the rostrum.
¥ Conchoecossda plinthina (Müller, 1906) (Conchoecissa plinthina, Conchoecissa plinthina 2, Conchoecissa plinthina 3) - a very large deep-living species with small symmetrical developments of the rostra.
¥ Conchoecossda symmetrica (Müller, 1906) (Conchoecissa symmetrica, Conchoecissa symmetrica 2) - a high latitude deep-living, deep-bodied mesopelagic species with symmetrical rostra.
¥ Conchoecossda squamosa (Müller. 1906) (Conchoecissa squamosa, Conchoecissa squamosa 2) - a poorly known deep mesopelagic species with normal rostra.
