[Cubo-/Scyphomedusae] In Cubomedusae, the velarium is a mesentery-like horizontal ring of tissue partially constricting the bell aperture (or velarial aperture). It corresponds functionally with the velum of hydromedusae, but is not homologous with it. From the ring canal short canals enter the velarium, typically several per quadrant, somewhat contorted in outline and branching in some species.

Alternative form for Velarium : velarial canal.
