[Pteropoda] Sculpture lines on the surface of the shell; very prominent striae are sometimes called ribs (Cavolinia in ventral view). Striae can be due to growth lines (transverse striation) or to sculpture (longitudinal or sometimes transverse striation) (Limacina in oral view).

[Crustacea] Incised lines forming sculptured patterns on the carapace. The differences between sculpturing made up of striae or ridges is one of degree.
