[Crustacea 2] Small strap-like projection arising from the coxa of the pereiopod and often from the maxillipeds. Epipods are directed posteriorly and nominally possess a hook-like structure at the tip which hooks over a bunch of setae, the setobranch, issuing from the adjacent posterior coxa.
