[Hydromedusae] Photoreceptors found in the Tiaropsidae where the cup-shaped mass of pigment is formed by the endoderm of the circular canal, the nerve elements being ectodermal. The ocelli of other Hydroidomedusae are completely ectodermal in origin. In the Tiaropsidae the ocelli are associated with open ectodermal statocysts forming a compound sense organ.
