[Pisces] The principal bow-shaped bone of the pectoral girdle, dermal in origin, extending upward from the pectoral fin base and forming the rear margin of the gill cavity. The cleithrum articulates dorsally with the supracleithrum and ventrally with the scapula and coracoid.
